Our Story

Founders

v      After 18 years of missions work in Japan, Assemblies of God missionaries Dr. Paul & Jean Klahr was moved by the Holy Spirit to consider the Philippines their new field of missions. At that time, God revealed a new way of winning the spiritually lost to Christ by conducting church services in places like hotels, restaurants, theaters, and malls. Ali Mall Cubao became the venue for a cutting edge church planting adventure. The church was called ‘Asian Christian Charismatic Fellowship.’ Dr. Paul Klahr partners with Rev. Evan Squires in this fellowship. Later on, Dr. Klahr turned the presidency over to Rev. Nilo Jaren Lapasaran, Jr. Soon after, as Pastor Jaren was led to the ‘nations’ of the world, he too stepped down as ACCF’s president. This was the time Jesus Our Hope International Assemblies was born.

1996 - 1998

v      Rev. Nilo Jaren Lapasaran, Jr. fathered Jesus Our Hope International Assemblies (JOHIA) in the year 1996. He was an outstanding preacher as well as an anointed musician and worship leader. A few months later, Pastor Jaren was at the forefront of revolutionizing the way the Body of Christ worshipped God. He was the founder of Celebrate Jesus, a 24-hour, non-stop praise and worship event, the very first of its kind in the Philippines. Since then, JOHIA has pioneered several more innovations, leading the body of Christ in singing praises to God.

1998 – 2003

v      Rev. Tristan Rafael “Tanny” Planas succeeded Rev. Lapasaran. Under his leadership, JOHIA was swept by the prophetic movement.  This period saw new revelations as well as new melodies and songs from the Lord. The prophetic movement weaved word and music, producing a powerful sound that glorified God, edified His people and set them free from bondage. It was also during this time that JOHIA experienced intimacy and freedom – the fruit of living holy lives before God.

2003 to present

v      February of 2003, Rev. Renato J. Mendoza continued the awesome work Pastor Tanny started. This time, JOHIA, equipped with the lessons learned from its fathers, geared toward evangelism, discipleship and instruction.  The present church is led by a brilliant teacher, training people to be wise in this era where false teachers and doctrines abound. Pastor Rene was given the divine appointment to complete this task.
